Dragons:
There are a number of different versions of dragons throughout Illiria. This section will describe the different kinds of “elemental” dragons, where they are found and what they look like.
They are not considered monsters or fiends simply because they are so rare, and trouble/attacks from them are even more uncommon. They also don’t fall into the monsters/fiends category since they can morph into human form (if they want to).
Dragons in Illiria are your typical “western” dragons, not “eastern” (Chinese) dragons. They are thick, long-bodied serpents with scaly skin, two large bat-like wings, wedge-shaped heads and long necks. They have two legs and two forearms and a long, thick, pointed tail.
The dragons have been around about as long as the elves have although who created them is unknown. They mysteriously appeared in the several regions and each is connected to the element of that area.
Dragons also have the ability to transform into humans, though most don’t bother, finding the hustle and bustle of human life too agitating and confining for them. Even if a dragon was in human form, the likelihood of one telling you so is doubtful.
Red/Fire Dragons:
Location: Fire Region
Status: Uncommon
Appearance: These dragons range from a deep crimson color to a medium-light shade of coral. It is believed that the darker red they are, the older they are. Their eyes are orange (female) or red (male), no exceptions.
Personality: Hot-tempered dragons that would as soon fry you to ashes than look at you. They tend to be known as the most troublesome, having occasionally attacked caravans and travelers, though usually any trouble from these guys means you’ve trespassed way too far into their territory.
Abilities:
Incinerate: Completely engulfs the target in flames. The heat from this blast is said to be so hot that it turns the target to ashes immediately, there is no ‘burning.’ If a fire dragon uses this attack it cannot use it or any other flame-based attack again for at least twenty-four hours.
Flamethrower: The cliché burst of flames.
Blue/Water Dragons:
Location: Water Region
Status: Rare
Appearance: These dragons range from a deep navy blue to a pastel sky blue. Unlike fire dragons, the lighter shade of blue the older they are. Their eyes are purple (female) or blue (male), no exceptions.
Personality: Rarely seen, these dragons are thought to care less what happens to the other inhabitants of Illiria and go on about their business in silent solitude. They sometimes interact with undines that are near their homes. The undines say they are very melancholy creatures.
Abilities:
Tsunami: Although there are no eyewitness accounts, it is believed that every great tsunami is the result of a water dragon’s rage. If it were to be used as an attack it would be devastating, capable of flooding a decent sized city.
Frost: The ability to spray a torrent of ice and snow at a target and either freeze them to death or immobilize them.
Green/Earth Dragons:
Location: Earth Region
Status: Uncommon
Appearance: These dragons come in any shade of green you could possibly imagine. It is unknown what shade of green denotes how old they are. Their eyes are yellow (female) or green (male), no exceptions.
Personality: Green dragons are said to be pretty even tempered, but like earth elementals, they have a tendency to be mischievous and are often heard to cause commotion in smaller villages. Green dragons are the typical dragons that hoard things. Especially shiny things. They have a particular attraction to shiny armor.
Abilities:
Rave: Basically a green dragon stomping ultra hard on all fours and causing a miniature earthquake within a five mile radius.
Terra Firma: Equivalent to a red dragon’s flamethrower only the green dragon blasts its target with gravel/dirt and rather than incinerate its target it pummels them senseless… or dead.
White/Wind Dragons:
Location: Air Region
Status: Common
Appearance: These dragons are either white, gray, silver or have an iridescent sheen to them. It is said the duller gray they are the older they are. Their eyes are pink (female) or sky blue (male), no exceptions.
Personality: The white dragons are said to be the most docile and tend to be helpful towards the other species of Illiria. It is also rumored that they guard the hidden city of the sylphs, deep in the sky.
Abilities:
Cyclone: Ability to summon a windstorm so fierce it could rip up the largest and heaviest of buildings from the ground. It could, in theory, relocate an entire city.
Squall Mist An incredible blast of fog and mist, causes temporary blindness and saturates the surrounding terrain, turning the ground into muck.
Black/Shadow Dragons:
Location: Unknown
Status: Ultra Rare
Appearance: These dragons are black. It is unknown how to tell how old they are. Their eyes are gray (female) or black (male), no exceptions.
Personality: No one knows because no one has ever encountered a black dragon and returned to tell the tale, although they are recorded in ancient texts as being very mysterious and secretive.
Abilities:
Execution: The ability to breathe out a tremendous black cloud full of poison and toxins. It is said once inhaled the effects of death are so quick they cannot be remedied.
Death Inferno A direct stream of black fire (like flamethrower) that is infused with shadow energy.
Gold/Light Dragons:
Location: Unknown
Status: Ultra Rare
Appearance: These dragons are gold and said be blinding in direct sunlight. It is unknown to tell how old they are. Their eyes are burgundy (female) or gold (male), no exceptions.
Personality: There is little known about gold dragons and very few have been recorded in history, though they are recorded in the ancient texts as being quite regal and more than a little haughty.
Abilities:
Aurora Revive Can bring the target back to life. Ancient texts say it is possible to bring someone/thing back from the dead even if it was hundreds of years ago. Many go in search of gold dragons to bring back their loved ones.
Spirit Blitz A direct stream of white lightning that is infused with light energy.
