Dusk Elves
Location: Duvesnia, a city near the Eatern most mountain range, on the right side.
Status: Common
Appearance: What a Dusk Elf looks like depends quite heavily on how old they are. When they are born their skin is a very soft steel grey color, and as they age it begins to darker until it is a deep and sooty grey right before they die. This is the reason for their name as the Dusk elves, as they say this represents the passing from Day to Night in their own lives. This ties in quite strongly with their beliefs, as well.
Physically speaking, they are a generally the same size as Humans. Their bodies are naturally very slender and ill-fit for physical work. Most of the other intelligent races consider them quite attractive as a race, something that feeds their already large egos even more. Despite this, however, they actually place less value on appearance than most would.... In fact, the only reason it makes them feel superior is because they take it as more proof they are the favored race among the Gods.
Their eyes are always either a shade of purple or green, usually favoring lighter colors over dark ones. Their hair can be a myriad of different colors, though sometimes it will fade to white as they age. They have no set style of dress, though they do like to show off wealth with their clothing.
Personality: Arrogant and self-absorbed, the Dusk Elf way of life encourages taking care of oneself and primarily oneself. Little regard is given to others outside of ones family, unless you plan on courting them, and friendships typically are only for buisness reasons. When they do make genuine friendships with one another it is often shortlived, as they have a hard time trusting other Dusk Elves. Strangely enough, however, they have an easy time befriending other intelligent races.
Though it is never spoken out loud, it is quite obvious that they consider themselves to be much smarter than the other races they share the continent with. Life is based around the pursuit of knowledge, though they do enjoy wealth quite a bit. This can often lead to a sort of 'know it all' personalty, one that irritates most of the people who interract with them regularly.
They have an odd sort of belief systems, as they think that all life is caught in a passing from Day to Night that is represented by their lives. When one dies they do not simply fade away in the eyes of a Dusk Elf, they have simply entered the Nightp hase of life. When Day returns they will be born again as another creature and live again. Because of this way of thinking they worship both Tatriel and Vau'Cheth.
When it all boils down to it, though, most Dusk Elves are cursed and blessed with a burning curiousity towards the world. Questioning everything about the world around them, they seek to find answers and enlighten themselves.
History: Once the Elves split into three groups the Dusk elves travelled to the southeast corner of the world, building at first a few small villages near the mountains. They set up a rural sort of lifestyle, becoming farmers and scholars of sorts. This would not last long, however, as the race seemed to have an odd sense of ambition instilled into it, driving them to expand until they formed a single large community instead of many smaller villages.
Together they shared what knowledge they had, and began to focus their lives on amassing as much knowledge as possible. A deep and almost consuming curiousity seemed to burn inside of them, causing them to try and figure out as much as they could abotu their world. Soon this spread into their daily lives, as they began to enhance and improve what they could, hoping they could find ways to apply their knowledge and use it to better their lives.
Since then their large farming community has slowly built itself into a giant city, one that buzzes with activity as they continue to pursue new knowledge, trying to invent new things to make life easier and leave more time to further their own education. At the present time, the Dusk elves are quite active throughout the world. Many have travelled into the Human lands to learn about their neighbors, though they never stay permanently. After all, they have to travel back to Duvesnia and report what they have discovered!
They would like to claim that the first Steam Engineers were Dusk Elves, though it is not know who first delved into the career. What is know, however, is that the Dusk Elves are quite frequently members of that profession, creating and endless supply of inventions... And, occasionally, one that works!
Abilities: The Dusk Elves do not have any set traits they all posses, though having any of the following abilities are common
Quick Learner: Dusk Elves are particularly good at remembering things once they've seen how something functions, something that can make them quite effective Mages or Engineers
Strong Mind: Dusk Elves truly are, on average, quite intelligent... This makes them less suspectable to any sort of magic that might try and effect the mind. They can spot flaws in illusions, and resist charming effects better than most.
Magical Ineptitude: Dusk Elves are the only type of Elf that uses magic regularly in their society. Unfortunately they too posses the same inability to use magic well, though some of them are beginning to overcome this weakness. As a result there are some that have the weakness, while families that include many mages have shrugged it off to some degree.
Other Facts: Dusk Elves are more likely to courst and reproduce with members of other races than they are to do so with other Dusk Elves. Very few pureblood Dusk Elves are left because of this, most of them have another race in their ancestry somewhere.
