Snow Elves
Location: Their homelands, Sevekaht, lies within the far northwest corner of the Water lands. Many Snow Elves lives in various places across Illiria, however.
Status: Common
Appearance: The most similar in appearance to Humans out of the three species of Elves, the Snow Elves are known for their pale colored flesh and shorter, only slightly pointed ears. The only tihng that keeps them from being mistaken as humans most of the time is their unusual natural hair colors... They almost always have hair that is some shade of blue, ranging from colors as icy as their homeland to shades as deep and dark as the sea's depths.
While it is stereotyped that all Elves are graceful and more attractive than humans, the truth is that the Snow Elves are nothing too spectacular as far as physical looks go. In fact, the majority of them are rather plain looking! Aside from their hair, of course...
Their eyes are a little less spectacular, and they tend to be either green or hazel.
As far as their physical build, it depends mostly upon where they hail from. The ones from Sevekaht are actually rather husky folk regardless of gender, commonly wide around the middle and built for enduring a life of hard work. This is also reflected by their rough and calloused hands, and their amazing stamina. In fact, their cousins the Dusk Elves often joke that the Snow Elves were the result of Dwarven blood seeping into the population.
In contrast, the Snow Elves living in other lands tend to be thinner, not needing the extra weight to survive in such cold climates. The males are prone to being stout and muscular, their race's fortitude making them ideal for jobs involving manual labor. The females are usually taller and much lighter than the males, having a sort of gangly look in comparison.
Personality: Once again there is a divide in the Snow Elves, with the two groups having developed different traits that are considered common. Sevekaht elves are most known for their humble and soft-spoken nature, showing great respect to their peers and even those considered to be beneath them. They are also quite fond of jokes and anecdotes, something commonly seen around campfires in their home. In Sevekaht, a good sense of humor is valued almost as much as a high intellect.
The 'Nomadic' Snow Elves usually have more forceful personalities, and they are often quite outgoing and flamboyant in the eyes of others. The same love for humor is there, though it plays a lesser role among their kind. Most are quite restless in spirit, and they naturally take to exciting or dangerous jobs... A great number end up being Mercenaries, or following similar careers.
History: When the three groups of Elves split, the colony that would grow to be known as the Snow Elves travelled to the Northwest, settling on a cold and almost deserted land of snow and ice... A land they would soon call Sevekaht. Quickly their bodies began to adapt to the cold nature of these lands, resulting in the thick and sturdy elves that are known today. To this day they still survive mostly by fishing and hunting the few wild creatures that can live in their homelands.
Many view their society as rather primitive, as it lacks many things that the other intelligent races have. They have no formal currency, prefering to trade among each other as oposed to using and sort of coin. Eventually they were forced to also take up some of the human coins to trade with other countires and realms for things they could not recieve on their own, but among their own kind it is rarely used.
Also, their written language leaves much to be desired. Most history is passed down by word of mouth, and it is hard to describe anything in detail with the alaphabet they use. It is primarily used when trading with other species, and forgotten at home.
Some Snow Elves grew tired of the life they were presented with in their frozen home, while others started to look for other ways to supply for their race. This marked the start of their spreading out and entering the other lands, explaining the many small colonies that exist across the upper half of the continent.
Many of these 'Nomad' elves take to the life of a Mercenary or warrior, using their naturally strong bodies in battle as a means to gain wealth. Others take up jobs such as blacksmithes or masons, putting themselves to use in a more peaceful way.
Many of the 'Nomad's settled in small communities near Sevekaht, and trade often with their homeland. Others have travelled into lands primarily dominated by other races, and are creating entirely new ways of life to fit into their new surroundings.
Abilities:
Endurance: All Snow Elves have extremely high endurance, making them capable of travelling farther and resisting fatigue than most other races. They also are better at going without food or drink than other, due to being used to sometimes having to go hungry.
Magical Ineptitude: Possesing the natural lack of magic all Elves share, it is ecspecially hard for Snow Elves to learn Magic due to their poor(and often vague) language. As such, it is extremely rare for them to take up magic, and they have rather limited abilities in it when they do.
Cold Resistance: The following is something only the Elves who either were born in or have parents from Sevekaht, as they are more used to extremely cold climates. Cold temperatures effect them less, though ice and such itself can still hurt them just as much.
Other Facts: Most Snow Elves only live to be three or four-hundred years old before they die, making them the shortest-lived of all Elvenkind.
